Step 2. Getting wood

Step 3. Making a crafting table

Step 4. Making sticks

Step 5. Making tools

The default key to access your inventory is E. When you press E you will see the following on your screen.

1-4 are your armor slots

5 is your off hand slot most commonly used for a shield once you get one.

The yellow box is your 2×2 crafting grid it lets you craft some of the most basic items like your crafting table that you use to make everything else.

The red box is your inventory with the bottom row being your hot bar. Anything in the hot bar you can access by pressing the numbers 1-9 on your keyboard.

Getting Wood

When you first spawn in a new world the first thing you have to do is get wood. You do this by punching trees. On PC the default key is the left mouse button you have to hold it down while looking at a tree, and you have to break each piece of wood separately. Once you have some wood open your inventory. You can left click on the wood in your inventory and move it to the 2×2 crafting area you will see in the box to the right of the 2×2 area that it gives you a new item called wood planks. If you hold down shift and left click on the wood planks it will put them in your inventory.

Making a crafting table

To make a crafting recipe you put 4 of the wood planks in your 2×2 crafting area like this.

Making Sticks

To make sticks you put 2 wood planks one above the other. You can do it either in a crafting table or the 2×2 crafting area in your inventory. Like this
